5 Hassle-Free Tips for Easy, Fashionable Halloween Costumes for Women

Halloween is a much-loved holiday across the country, and it isn't just for kids. While we might grow out of trick-or-treating or stop believing that the boogieman is living under our bed, some of us still love to decorate the house and dress for the occasion. The whole month of October welcomes an excuse to get into the Halloween spirit, but unfortunately, not everyone is as enthusiastic.

While you may see nothing wrong with dressing like the Bride of Frankenstein for work or picking up your kids from school dressed like a sexy devil, your boss and other parents might give you a bit of unwanted attention.

Here are five tips for women who are in search of a Halloween-themed fashion look but don't want to look like they're trying too hard. And if you're looking to purchase something for Halloween, check out our Halloween coupons!

No Hassle Halloween Looks for Women

  • Simply dress in black and orange. While the reasons why black and orange are considered Halloween colors vary, there is a common belief that orange celebrates the autumn harvest (and pumpkins), while black represents the opposite: death. Regardless of the reasons, wearing black and orange together is typically only OK in October, so use this month to get away with it. After all, it doesn't scream, "Look at me, I'm celebrating Halloween!" But it does imply that you're aware of the holiday and that you're paying homage to it in your own way. Consider pairing this brushed knit sweater from Forever 21 with some black pants, and you're set. The subtle amber color is ideal for someone who doesn't want to look too orange.

  • Accessorize with a scarf. It's sometimes easier to accessorize with one piece that has a bit of Halloween spirit than going all out with an entire Halloween-themed outfit. Whether it's bats, black cats, pumpkins, witches or skulls; a Halloween-themed scarf like this one from Amazon can be much more subtle but provide just enough to say, "I'm professional, but I still know how to have fun and celebrate." Wear it around your neck, tie it to your purse or use it in your hair as a headband or ponytail holder.

  • Keep it confined to jewelry. Just like a scarf, a pair of earrings or a necklace can be a subtle contribution to your outfit. It doesn't have to be obnoxiously obvious either. A simple internet search for "Subtle Halloween Jewelry" should guide you. Or give yourself an excuse to make a Target run for these cute, dangly bat earrings that are only $5.99.

  • Say it with socks. Fun and funky stocks are in style these days, and are often used as an excuse to show you have a personality sneaking out of your otherwise drab outfit, even if it is only when your ankles are exposed. Halloween-themed socks like this 3-pack from Walmart can be a fun addition to any outfit, plus they're super affordable.

  • Go T-shirt shopping. Lots of big retailers have their Halloween-themed apparel right at the front of the store this time of year, and some of it is really cute, yet subtle. A simple T-shirt like this "Stay Bootiful" shirt from Kohl's can speak volumes about your attitude toward Halloween, whether it features a cute black cat or a terrifying horror movie icon. You can even hide it under a blazer, and dress it up with jeans and heels for a casual yet "put-together" look.

Whether trying to look casual yet cute, or professional but fun, rest assured that these ideas can help you celebrate Halloween the whole month of October, with just enough of your spirit showing through.
