A Winc Review After 1-Year of Subscribing

Buying wine is a fun undertaking. For those of us who appreciate wine and like to try new types, it can be a form of hobby. But you never really know what you're going to get. Even if someone else says, "You'll love it, try it," how do they know what you'll like? And if you spend a lot of money on a bottle you don't really like, that's money down the drain.

Wine subscription boxes are trying to make the experience of buying and trying new wines more fun and less stressful so you can spend more time enjoying your wine and less time wondering which bottle to buy. When I heard about Winc, I was more than happy to try it out and ended up sticking with it for over a year. Here's what I found!

1-Year Winc Subscription Review

-WINC PROS-

Wine, at your doorstep, picked just for you — obviously this is a good thing. Here are some of the other notable pros:

  • It's fun to fill out the flavor profile and see which wines the folks at Winc match you to.
  • There aren't any membership fees and you don't have to pay for shipping unlike other subscription wine boxes.
  • You can cancel anytime or skip a month. You design how often you want your boxes.
  • Guests seemed to love the idea when told where the wine came from. Our Winc subscription was a great icebreaker and topic of conversation over dinner!
  • Winc sources from vineyards around the world, allowing them to deliver a diverse selection of wines to suit a wide variety of tastes.
  • You save time since you don't have to make your decision in the grocery or liquor store.
  • Since many people base their wine purchasing decisions on the price of wine or how the bottle looks, it is nice to have a subscription that takes the guesswork out of the purchasing decisions and encourages you to try wines you may not have considered or even heard about before.

-WINC CONS-

It's tough to complain about having wine sent to you and being able to try new types, but you'll want to consider these cons before you sign up for your subscription:

  • It's still possible to get a bottle you just won't like.
  • If you typically spend less than $10/bottle on wine, you'll be spending a little more than that. But it is worth it when you consider that you're trying wines you may not have considered before.
  • You need someone over the age of 21 to sign for delivery if you're not home.

Some Winc FAQs

  • Winc recommends four bottles for you every month at a total cost of between $52-$59.
  • Shipping is free on orders of four bottles or more. For orders of less than four boxes, you pay a flat $9 shipping fee.
  • Membership is free and continues until you cancel it. You can cancel either by live chat or by calling them at 855-282-5829.
  • You should use a shipping address where an adult will be able to sign for it. Most customers have their wine shipped to their workplace.
  • The Winc page at CouponCause has plenty of offers you can utilize to help drive down the cost on your purchase.

Winc is a California-based winery that seems to truly have the best interests of their customers in mind. After all, they even produce a vegan wine. I enjoyed getting four bottles a month, delivered right to my doorstep. Although some were better than others, it was worth it. Winc would be best suited for someone who does a lot of entertaining or is more adventurous in the wine department!
