How to Make New Years Plans During COVID
December 21, 2020 by Kellan Jansen
Traditionally, New Years' is one of the most exciting holidays of the year. Not only is it a chance to celebrate with the ones you love, but it’s also an opportunity to reflect on the previous year while planning for the next one. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has thrown a wrench in most of our New Year’s plans.
But that doesn’t mean you can’t still make the most out of the holiday. You just need to get a little creative to do so. Here are six creative ways that you can celebrate New Years’ 2021.
Tips for Making New Years' Plans During COVID
1. Take Your Party to the Computer
Thanks to Covid, most of us are veterans at connecting with people over videoconferencing technologies like Zoom. So why not put that to use by hosting a virtual New Year’s party with the people you love? You can put on some music and have a virtual dance party, play a game together, or share your predictions and resolutions for the new year.
2. Get Dressed Up Anyway
Just because you won’t be going anywhere on New Years’ doesn’t mean that you should celebrate the holidays in your pajamas. There’s nothing wrong with that, but if you want to make your celebration feel more like the real thing, consider dressing up in what you would have worn had you gone out. Doing so will help you get into a festive mood and make your holiday feel a bit more normal. If you need to purchase something to wear, check out our best fashion coupons!
3. Make a Memory Jar
This fun craft is the perfect way to prepare yourself for 2021. Get a jar and decorate it however you want. Then, every time that something special happens in 2021, write about it on a little piece of paper and place it back into the jar. You can even add ticket stubs and other mementos that you receive. New Year’s Eve is the perfect time to put your own memory jar together.
4. Watch the Ball Drop in Times Square
COVID doesn’t have to change all of our New Year’s traditions. And what better way to bring in the New Year than to watch the ball drop in Times Square? You can do so virtually and even join a Zoom call with your friends and family to countdown until 2021 together.
5. Make Some Noise
If you’re ready to let loose after months of quarantine, grab your favorite noisemakers and put them to work when the clock strikes midnight. You can use pots and pans or purchase some trendy noisemakers that will look good in your photos from the night. If there was ever an opportunity to get loud without enraging your neighbors, New Years’ Eve is it.
6. Make a Celebratory Dinner
If you’re going to be at home anyway, you might as well use that time to create a dinner that your family will remember. New Years’ Eve is the last chance that you’ll have until the fall of 2021 to create a holiday meal for your table. You can make a simple roast chicken with all of your favorite sides or get creative and try something new. Either way, doing so will help you bring in the New Year in style.
