It might be shocking to some, but Redbox was originally a sales gimmick by McDonald's. Started in 2002 using repurposed kiosks, RedBox was used by the food giant to get more traffic to select restaurants. Eventually Redbox was purchased by another company and continued to operate as kiosks, usually found outside of store locations across the country. The business has expanded to include streaming television and movies in addition to DVDs and games that can be rented or purchased.
