Yogi Review: Manduka Pro vs. PROlite

Manduka has been considered one of the highest quality brands in the yoga market since its inception in 1997. With its focus on sustainability, transparency and thoughtful design, yogis around the world have come to trust Manduka and what they stand for.

Founder Peter Sterios took his background in architecture and combined it with his passion for yoga to craft high quality, simple design and handcrafted, carefully selected sustainable materials. Since their yoga mat beginnings, Manduka has grown to now include additional yoga accessories like towels, blocks and other props in addition to a full apparel line for both men and women. Their yoga mat line has also expanded to include the PRO, PROlite, eKO, GRP, eQua Hot, Manduka X, and WelcOMe mats, all serving a different feature set and end use.

The Maduka PRO is the original while the PROlite is the lighter-weight version of the original Pro. Both are made from high-quality PVC, and while they have a lot of features in common, some distinct differences should determine whether you buy the PRO or the PROlite version.

Manduka PRO v PROlite

Price
The first difference comes in the price. The Manduka PRO will run you $110 while the PROlite costs $82. Essentially, the price difference comes down to thickness and smaller overall dimensions. Let's get into more of the differences next. Our Manduka section here at CouponCause is a great place to start if you're looking for deals to save on your purchase.

Weight/Thickness
The most significant difference between these two models is in the weight and thickness, as the PROlite is the lighter-weight version of the PRO. The Manduka PRO weighs in at 7.5 pounds for the standard length and 9.5 pounds for the extra long length, with a thickness of 6 mm each. The Manduka PROlite is 4 pounds for the standard length and 4.6 pounds for the long length, with each measuring at 5 mm thickness.

Length
The length is another point of differentiation between the two. The PRO Standard is 71" x 26", while the Extra Long is 85" x 26". The PROlite is similar but slightly narrower, with the Standard measuring 71" x 24" and the Long measuring 79" x 24".

Features/Options
Both mat options contain the same great features that make Manduka mats so special. This includes:

  • A Lifetime Guarantee
  • High performance surface
  • Dense support foam
  • Available in several different colors

In addition to all Manduka PRO mats being made from the same high-quality PVC material, each is also free of toxic chemicals, dyes, and phthalates.

Which to Buy?
It's going to depend on what you intend to use the mat for that will determine which you end up purchasing. If you often travel with your mat or carry it a long way to the studio, you'd be best to get the Manduka PROlite Standard. If you carry it around a few times a week, but not for long distances, the PROlite Long provides more length for your practice. For those who mix home and studio yoga, the PRO Standard is the best due to it's added thickness and comfort. If you practice all of your yoga at home, go all out on the PRO Extra Long, for the most luxurious yoga practice.
