1. Shoppers raise over $100 million for charities around the world through AmazonSmile. AmazonSmile is a neat little initiative launched by Amazon about 5 years ago. Customers can visit smile.amazon.com and shop the Amazon collection with a twist: a portion of the total purchase price is donated to a charity of the customer’s choosing. Charities include Dancing Dreams and charity: water, among others, the latter of which has received enough AmazonSmile donations to help over 42,000 people gain access to clean water. For a limited time, Amazon has increased the amount they will donate to 5% through Friday, November 2.
2. Competitors eat 300 lbs of spare ribs for charity. Eating contests for charity are a great way to raise money and in Aluchua County, Florida, contestants ate 300 lbs of sauceless ribs to raise money for the local Boys & Girls Club. David Rountree, who came in 3rd place after eating 18 ribs in 3 minutes said that he the meat sweats induced by the contest would “last for a couple of days.”
3. Musician Ed Sheeran to hold charity auction in England. Among the items to be auctioned: several pairs of the international star’s underwear. Other Ed Sheeran-items to be auctioned include a LEGO-replica of the musician and one of his custom guitars. The auction will be held in Suffolk, England on Saturday, November 10. All proceeds raised from the auction will be donated to the charity Zest. Zest supports youth who have been diagnosed with terminal illnesses.
